Sperryville is located in the heart of VA wine country, but did you know there are also two breweries and a distillery?

Pen Druid Brewing

Pen Druid Brewing is the three brothers Lain, Van and Jennings Carney who are in the psych-rock band Pontiak. They’ve spent nearly a decade traveling North America and Europe, touring and drinking beer. They’ve released 10 albums on the legendary Chicago independent record label Thrill Jockey Records. In between tours they would brew beer at home combining the tastes and smells they picked up on the road. It was an amazing education to taste traditional and new beers all over the world and they wanted to bring those experiences home and put them to use.

The brothers will be brewing beer like their approach to music, they tend to think and act outside of the mainstream, favoring the weird over the mundane and the nuanced over the obvious. Using as many ingredients from Virginia as possible, they want to capture the spirit of Virginia in their beers.

Hopkins Ordinary

Hopkins Ordinary Ale Works is proud to brew small batch craft beer in the cellar of their Bed and Breakfast. Beers are made with local barley that is malted by our neighbors at Copper Fox Distillery, and feature local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible, such as hops, honey, fruit, and herbs.

Using our one-barrel brewhouse, we are making a variety of beers over the course of the year, including our standards: Little Devil Blonde, Second Breakfast Stout, and Innkeeper’s India Pale Ale. We will be adding monthly and seasonal beers to keep up the variety.

Visit the brewery for a taste, a pint to enjoy on-site, or bottles or a growler to take with you.  The outdoor BIERGARTEN is now open during brewery hours!

Death Ridge Brewery

Death Ridge Brewery at Higher Ground Farm! The farm lays in the little town of Jeffersonton, Virginia, on the outskirts of Culpeper County. The streams meandering through the property are part of what is now called "Delridge Run" on current maps, but was once named "Deatherage Run", or funny enough "Death Ridge Run" as we believed it was. The very site where the brewery is built was once a campsite during the Civil War, and many relics have been found all over those fields from soldiers passing through. If there is one thing that brings people together past and present, its a good beer.
